2. What data we collect

If you use the app without an account (guest mode)

We collect no personal data. All data you enter (names of people, gift history, occasions) is stored locally in your browser using localStorage and never sent to our servers.

If you create an account

We collect and store:

• Your email address
• A securely hashed version of your password (we never store your actual password)
• The gift vault data you enter: names, ages, relationships, hobbies, occasions and gift history of the people you add
• The date and time your account was created

Automatically collected data

When you visit our website, standard web server logs may record:

• Your IP address
• Browser type and version
• Pages visited and time spent
• Referring website

This data is used for security and performance purposes only and is not linked to your account.

4. How we store your data

Account data is stored in a secured MySQL database hosted in the Netherlands via mijn.host. All connections to our website are encrypted using HTTPS/TLS (SSL certificate).

Passwords are never stored in plain text — they are hashed using bcrypt, a strong one-way encryption algorithm. Even we cannot read your password.

We retain your account data for as long as your account exists. If you delete your account, all associated data is permanently deleted within 30 days.

5. Who we share data with

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with:

• Anthropic (api.anthropic.com) — when you click "Get gift ideas", the profile information you've entered for that person (name, age, hobbies, notes, past gifts) is sent to Anthropic's API to generate gift suggestions. This data is processed in accordance with Anthropic's privacy policy. No email addresses or account credentials are shared.
• mijn.host — our hosting provider stores your data on their servers in the Netherlands. They act as a data processor under our instructions.
• Google AdSense — if you have consented to advertising cookies, Google may collect data to show you relevant ads. See section 6 below.

6. Advertising (Google AdSense)

PresentChecker uses Google AdSense to display advertisements. Google AdSense may use cookies and similar tracking technologies to show you personalised ads based on your browsing behaviour.

Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet.

You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings or aboutads.info.
